i've been checking out stuff on anti-copy protection etc, and i found a very good site. it has when it falls on the list of corrupted cds. it says:

"When It Falls by Zero7: Reported corrupt in the UK, with a small warning sticker on the packaging. Only 4 tracks appear in iTunes on one tested OS9 Mac. On another Mac (an iMac), the entire system crashes if the disc is played. The owner now regards the disc as a "waste of a tenner". Ultimate Dilemma please take note -- these people are not happy campers. The US version is reportedly not corrupt.

and i've decided to take the cd back to rhapsody. the guy probably won't take it back, because i sort of managed to tear the cover, and plus it's a small shop which i happen to like, so i don't really intend to insist on him taking it back, but i want to tell him at the very least, that it doesn't play on my discman which is not by any standards an old obselete player.

i shall also try the cd in the car and on the player in the den, and see if it plays.

eta - wow. there are a LOT of copy-protected cds on the market. and a lot of them are the indie-type artists. very scary. although i supposed piracy hits them the hardest, in some sense. and all of BMG and EMI cds are copy-protected, take note. TAKE NOTE. boycott, if you will. i'm very tempted, if not for the fact that i'm incapable of staying away from music.

eta again - i love my computer. i just realised that it can play the i am sam soundtrack, although the cd cover says that it can't be played on computers.

gah. i just don't see the point of alienating consumers. it's so utterly idiotic.
