let me recount my day from the morning. woke up a whole half hour earlier than usual, cos i had to get to school at 720 and my brother had to get to ri at 730 and both of us were going earlier than usual so my dad had to drop us, meaning i had to leave at 7 in order for my brother to reach on time. and i usually WAKE UP at 7. yesterday i even managed to wake up at 720. but i ought not to be such a brat, and anyway next year's going to be hell for poor ol' me. anyway my brother himself delayed us until we left at 710... then i got to school and we stood around and waited for the stupid ceremony to start until 820 or something, and in the process i retied my tie about 4 times because i am incapable of making it the right length, and my tie's cursed because neither kaimin nor kats could tie it properly. anyway. mundane matters. i managed to tie it eventually. received the colours and the scary mask. school was full of walking singapore flags so i decided not to be one. just stuck with raffles colours. anyway i was too lazy to go home and get clothes to change, because in typical fashion i forgot to bring atleast one thing, and today it was singapore-flag clothes.
the class, which consisted of all of ten people maybe? promptly ponned the lumba kota singa shite, and played risk. i had a nice little chat with mcconnell and perry. and the ensuing bad mood. somewhat reassured by another little chat with j.
and rehearsal, which was exhausting as usual but really fun with all the antics. i wasn't high today, though. what a pity. but i have a feeling now that things will go ok. a good feeling. well, rehearsal turned up too few people so we ended early and shoojee, viv, kel, louisa and i headed off to town. while jaywalking i banged my knee against the road divider, so now i have an almighty bruise and a little scratch as well. jaywalking bad, but it's so addictive! i'll never learn my lesson. but it's like sex, you have to do it at your own pace. it's bad for you if you just run across the road following someone who thinks that the road is clear, but you're not so sure. ok babbling now.
pigged out at cine pastamania, a good feeling. although it's not the same as scotts pastamania which was the good old rgs retreat for a lot of people. and then claud and i scrambled off to hmv, where i managed to pile in my arms about 8 cds, all of them soundtracks. i thankfully put down the three qaf soundtracks, all of which were more than 40 bucks and didn't have particularly good songs. and i decided that eternal sunshine would've been a silly buy since i have yet to watch the movie, and i had to painfully put down almost famous and radio sunnydale, and eventually just got the OC soundtrack, which was my original purpose in going to hmv. ah well, it is inevitable that i -will- get soundtracked in a shop of any kind. got back to cine just in time for the movie, seeing someone along the way, which was interesting. and after the movie rushed off home for dinner, grabbing a funky little pouch from hula&co along the way. actually it's not that little, but funky it is. retro-ish, tan-coloured. and then i walked to the bus-stop, belatedly realising that i walked to the wrong one. and ran into kel and louisa there. then walked to the right stop and took 7 back. and had my shower and now am eating dinner while typing this post. parents have gone off for some tamil play and i am astounded that my mother is doing such a thing. she's such a non-tamil play. the only stuff she watches on tv is hindi soaps and.. oprah or something. dad must've dragged her along. brother's in his room watching fahrenheit with his friend. really need to get the dvd player for the main tv fixed. it's disgustingly annoying. every time you put a disc in, the tray just opens back again and you have to close it back about a dozen times before it actually plays. and that's if you're lucky. apparently this particular dvd didn't work at all on the player, so they've retreated to the computer and left me alone with mine. sigh.
house of flying daggers was really good - direction wise.
SPOILER ALERT HERE BECAUSE I AM ABOUT TO DISCUSS THE MOVIE AND GIVE AWAY THE ENDING TO ANYONE WHO MAY NOT HAVE WATCHED. but note that this is probably the most interesting part of the post.
when zhang ziyi managed to awake from the dead 4 times, it really got quite ridiculous. it was like alias and aunt em all over again! plot was sad, but better i guess, than if she hadn't pulled the dagger out and lived instead. otherwise it'd have been sappy happy whoop-dee-doo typical love story. but on the other hand, andy lau not flinging his dagger was very annoying. i guess it was supposed to make it more complicated or something, but i thought that was a bit pointless. oh and takeshi singing the north beauty song at the end was corny and stupid. it reminded me of titanic, where she's lying on the driftwood and singing 'come josephine my flying machine going up blah blah blah'. anyway the direction was fantastic. the visuals, wow. the greengreengreen scene. the season transitions, the costumes, the ACTION. especially the echo game scene in the peony pavilion - that was brilliant. and zhang ziyi! OH GORGEOUSNESS. some women make me SO lesbian. but actually she doesn't really. she just makes me completely fucking jealous because she's sooo beautiful. it's the lena olin or the jennifer garner complex - not an attraction, but i want so badly to be them for their gorgeousness. so far only eliza dushku and willow manage to make me lesbian. especially willow in that picture in the 'once with feeling' cd booklet, which was when i said for the first time that she made me so lesbian. and i remember daphne cracking up at that statement. anyway - zhang ziyi has an even nicer nose than marissa, which is a mean feat. and her complexion's gorgeous, although in one close-up it was obvious that she had a zit on her chin, and i was gleeful for a moment that zits happen to the most perfect-looking people. but the best thing about her is her lips. especially in the first scene that she appears in, where she's wearing this bright crimson lipstick. it's beeyootifull. oh and the female costumes were really nice. and takeshi was quite good. andy lau was annoying. probably because i'm a typical sort who likes the pretty boys and is always on the side of the good guy. usually anyway. anyway it's not like i'm any authority on the hotness of these stars since this is one of the very few or even the first non-indian asian films i've watched. not the first probably.. i think i've watched a couple of others.
